Welcome to my website!!
Hi to all of you who have stumbled onto my website! I am Melissa Hinds and I am a food addict! My love affair with food began when I was very young and my grandmother (who was 400 lbs.) would cook dinner for me and my brother everyday after school while my parents were at work. She did introduce me to vegetables but I thought they were ONLY prepared using butter, bacon, or lard. She actually owned a deep fryer and introduced me to my greatest love of all time, the french fry. This was my first introduction into nutrition, for instance, my grandmother would tell me she ordered the chicken sandwich at Burger King because it was healthy, years later I found out it is actually worse then the whopper! At 15 I was already considered overweight and as a teenager in high school that is not the label you want to have, so me and my mom joined Weight Watchers. This was right at the time they changed to the Points system and I had some success but it didn't last for long.
The real weight gain began when I was in college, most people will gain the Freshman 15, well I gained the freshman 50 during the course of 3 years. I was on and off at Weight Watchers but I would always give up at some point and then the weight would come back and bring its friends with him. The turning point came when I was a senior in college and I went to buy new work pants and I couldn't fit into a size 16 and there was no next size in the store. I remember just sitting in the dressing room and crying and thinking this is not who I want to be. The next day I was sitting at a Weight Watchers meeting feeling very defeated. My starting weight was 194.4 and I am barely 5"2, I just sat there the whole meeting in disbelief of what the scale had said. After I left the meeting I remember saying to myself it is time to get this under control and I can do it! 1 year later I lost a total of 69 lbs. and reached my goal of 125 lbs. I was now a lifetime member and later I would become a receptionist and leader at Weight Watchers.
During the last 6 years since I reached my goal weight I have gone up and down and at one point gained 30 lbs. of it back. I then went back to goal after 6 months by going back to weekly meetings and going through a nasty break up.
In February 2011 I moved back to Israel to be with my fiance Dor and a month later our house burned down in an electrical fire and destroyed all of our belongings so because of this I ate whatever I want and was the highest weight I had been in the last three years: 146.6. It was time to get serious so I started tracking my weight again and decided to change my whole life not only my weight but my career. I studied very hard and got my certification in personal training, nutrition & wellness, and lifestyle & weight management. After 6 months I got back to my goal weight of 125 and now feel the best I have felt in my whole life!! Once I got home I got a job as a personal trainer at my favorite gym Lynne Brick's Women's Health & Fitness and now I am working on running the Iron Girl Half Marathon at the end of April 2012, and am also now married to the love of my life......life is great!
